Council Member McGowan’s commitment to ensuring Helotes remains a safe place to live and work is unwavering. She will continue to support strong partnerships between our police, fire, and emergency services, investments in public safety infrastructure, and community policing programs that help prevent crime, keep our families safe, and protect our neighborhoods and businesses.
Planning for Our Future
The Master Plans for the City of Helotes and the Old Town Helotes District have expired, leaving us without a tool to align economic, land-use, and infrastructure development and redevelopment with our community’s needs. Council Member McGowan will push to update these plans with community input so we can gain control over how Helotes continues to grow and strategically plan for a future that meets our residents’ needs.
Advancing Economic Development
With more than 100 uses for commercial development, Council Member McGowan will continue to support commercial development that’s aligned with the long-term needs of Helotes and carefully consider the impact on our city’s infrastructure, municipal, and emergency services.
Ensuring Transparency and Accountability
Leading meaningful community feedback takes time, skill, and trust. Council Member McGowan will continue to champion city planning that starts with early, public disclosure and includes ample opportunities for broad input and citizen engagement, not just rushed hearings.
Investing Wisely
Helotes maintains a robust annual budget of more than $4 million and reserves exceeding $16 million. However, it is essential to ensure these resources are managed responsibly. Council Member McGowan will continue to advocate for a budget that addresses both the priorities of Helotes and the financial interests of its residents—now and into the future.
